Jazz Group Fourplay Reaches #1 on Billboards Contemporary Jazz Charts This Week with "Esprit de Four"!
One of contemporary jazz music's most consistent, enduring groups, Fourplay, struck gold this week on Billboard as they debuted at #1 on the Contemporary Jazz Chart & #2 on the current Jazz Albums Charts with new disc, "Esprit de Four". Keyboardist Bob James, bassist Nathan East, drummer Harvey Mason & Guitarist Chuck Loeb provided listeners with 10 tracks of compelling, consistent jazz music reminiscent to all of their previous recordings. Oh yeah! I remember when Eric Clapton released an album entitled "Unplugged." Espirit de Four is jazz funk/fusion in the fifth dimension. One could say that the latest from Fourplay is "Unpredictable." Well, certainly, this project lacks no imagination. The driving rhythm (sample track above) and elusive melody are held together with a rubber like substance which allows this unique flight crew - Four co-pilots-to cover a couple of continents, or planets, without actually leaving the homebase, or home "mase" if you will.
Fourplay has not produced anything remotely boring to date. This album will create it's own turbulence, favorably speaking. but the landing, it will be a smooth one. I'm reserving my ticket now. No coach for moi.This album is first class all the way.
